USDT: TRC20, ERC20, BEP20 and other networks

Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar (1 USDT ≈ 1 USD). The same coin is issued on different blockchain networks, and the network you pick affects the transfer fee, speed and compatibility with the recipient's wallet. This is a common source of mistakes when exchanging, so let's break it down.

Main USDT networks

  • TRC20 (TRON) — the most popular for peer-to-peer and exchanger transfers: low network fee and fast transactions. Usually chosen for cashing out and exchanging.
  • ERC20 (Ethereum) — the "original" network with the widest compatibility, but the network fee (gas) is higher and depends on Ethereum load.
  • BEP20 (BNB Smart Chain) — low fees, common on Binance-ecosystem exchanges.
  • TON, SOL (Solana), Polygon, Arbitrum, Avalanche — newer networks with low fees; not supported everywhere, so confirm with the recipient.

Why you must not mix networks up

USDT on different networks means incompatible addresses. Sending USDT TRC20 to a USDT ERC20 address can lose the funds. Always match the sender's and recipient's network.

How this relates to exchanging

In our directory pick the direction with the network you need, for example USDT TRC20, USDT ERC20 or USDT BEP20. The rate and available exchangers can differ per network.

In short

  • USDT has the same value across networks, but the networks are incompatible with each other.
  • TRC20 is usually cheaper for transfers; ERC20 is more universal but pricier.
  • Before a transfer, confirm the network on both sides.
