Gas is the fee for computation and transfers on Ethereum and compatible networks; it is measured in units, and the total depends on network load. At peak hours gas gets more expensive, and transferring a small amount via ERC20 can become unprofitable. If the amount is small, it is wiser to pick a cheaper network (TRC20, TON).
