Bitcoin or USDT: which to choose
The two most common tools when exchanging are Bitcoin (BTC) and USDT (Tether). They solve different tasks, so "which is better" depends on the goal: moving money, preserving value, or entering an asset with growth potential.
The key difference — volatility
- USDT is a stablecoin pegged to the dollar (1 USDT ≈ 1 USD). Its value barely changes — handy for settlements and holding "in dollars".
- Bitcoin has a free rate that can rise and fall by tens of percent. It's an asset, not a "digital dollar".
For transfers
To move an amount quickly without rate risk people more often take USDT on the cheap TRC20 network: a low network fee and a predictable amount received. Bitcoin is pricier and slower for transfers, and the rate can move during the transfer.
For holding
- Want to lock value in dollars — USDT.
- Ready for swings for the sake of growth potential — Bitcoin.
Fees and networks
- BTC — a Bitcoin network fee that depends on load; there is Bitcoin LN for small fast payments.
- USDT — the fee depends on the network: TRC20/BEP20 are cheaper, ERC20 is pricier.
In short
- USDT — stability and cheap transfers; Bitcoin — an asset with a moving rate.
- For a rate-risk-free transfer — usually USDT TRC20.
- For a bet on growth — Bitcoin.
